Moving to Mangawhai: Relocation and Settlement Checklist

Property Guides · Moving and settling in

A successful move starts before the moving truck arrives. Use this checklist to test whether a property supports your daily life, organise the handover and keep the first week manageable. It is equally useful when moving between Mangawhai Village, Mangawhai Heads and a surrounding rural address.

Test your everyday routine before choosing

Use our local area guide to shortlist settings, then check the exact address. Plan a visit around a normal weekday as well as the times you expect to use the property. A pleasant weekend visit will not answer every question about working, school runs or ongoing maintenance.

  • Travel: drive the routes you will actually use, allowing for your own timing and parking needs.
  • Working from home: ask providers what connections are available at the address and what installation requires.
  • School and care: confirm enrolment arrangements, availability and transport directly with the relevant provider.
  • Health and everyday services: contact providers about availability rather than assuming you can enrol immediately.
  • Water and wastewater: establish which systems serve the property and what you need to operate and maintain them.
  • Access: check the driveway, gate, turning space and any shared-access arrangements with your advisers and movers.

Your relocation worksheet

Create one entry for each service you need: provider, address checked, contact person, quote, earliest start date and action still required. Keep a separate list of “must be ready on arrival” items and things that can wait. This avoids treating an enquiry as a confirmed booking.

For example, if reliable internet is essential for your first working day, record a confirmed connection date and your backup arrangement. If the property uses unfamiliar equipment, request the manuals and organise any specialist handover before arrival.

Prepare for settlement with your advisers

Buyers should organise finance, insurance and a pre-settlement inspection in advance. Compare the property and included chattels with the agreement and tell your lawyer promptly about any issue. Sellers should plan the agreed handover and confirm what must remain or be removed. The agreement and your legal adviser determine the requirements.

Use the independent buyer settlement guide and seller settlement guide for the legal-process background and official checklists.

Organise the physical move

  1. Give movers the actual access details and confirm vehicle size, parking and any carrying distance.
  2. Confirm dates, cancellation terms and a backup plan if access is delayed.
  3. Keep medication, essential documents, chargers and first-night items with you.
  4. Arrange care for children and pets around the move.
  5. Keep the contact details for your agent, lawyer, movers and key service providers available.
  6. Wait for confirmation of settlement and the agreed key-release process before assuming you can enter.

Arrange a useful property handover

Make a checklist for keys, remotes, manuals and the instructions you need. For a lifestyle property, ask how gates, water equipment and other included systems operate. Have a qualified person explain anything unfamiliar or safety-critical. Verify servicing needs rather than relying only on informal advice from the previous owner.

Your first week

Check service connections, update your contact address and organise the ongoing maintenance the property requires. Keep the information folder somewhere easy to find. Review the unresolved items from your relocation worksheet and assign a next action to each.
